Booked!!

Melissa and I are thrilled to announce that, pending any unforeseen circumstances, we have booked our venue and a date for our wedding!!!!

And it’s not Las Vegas.

We will be getting married on Sunday, September 14, 2008. The venue is the Eglinton Grand, located near Yonge and Eglinton. We are both thankful and thrilled to have found this gorgeous venue, and to the events coordinator there, Francesca, who was willing to spend a whole hour with us on a Saturday to show us around and actually sit down with us and discuss everything in great detail.

We couldn’t be more happy during this important moment in our lives. The venue booking, and later today, the rabbi booking, are the 2 important first steps in this long process. Now that we have a date, a venue, and an officiator, we can really concentrate on the remaining details which will truly make our wedding our wedding. We’re really looking forward to picking out a dress for Melissa, tuxedos for the men, dresses for the bridesmaids, wedding invitations, flowers, centrepieces, music, a photographer, videographer, and whatever else we have to do.

I’d like to extend special thanks to our parents, who have given us their blessing to book everything thus far. I know there will be challenges ahead, and we don’t always agree on things, but I know that we will work things out, like we always do. I would also like to extend a special thanks to my grandparents, who were there to turn to this week when Melissa and I were feeling upset about things. You have uplifted our spirits once again and will remain a very influential part of our lives. I am very lucky to have grandparents like you!

Dress Monster

Well, on the weekend at the Wedding Show there was an area where they were selling dresses. All on racks, hundreds of them. I didn’t wanna go in, the dress thing freaks me out. Anyways, on the way out Brian was like let’s just go, you gotta get one anyways. So we went in, I felt gross. It was a huge maze of big white and beige dresses, and girls naked just trying them on. Ugh. They were everywhere!! And they were huge! What kind of giants wear these? Do only giant women get married? I’m too tiny for it all.

Dress

Ah, so “THE” dress… the one i wanted, although I never got to see it in real life, but in pictures it was perfect… I found out how much it is. So insane… I assumed since I found it at a random crappy store that it wouldn’t be too bad…

$1045.00, sans alterations… really? Seriously? A thousand bucks for a dress i’m only gonna wear once. I dunno if I can justify that. It’s funny how girls buy these expenses dresses, knowing full well they’ll only wear them once… but boys rent their tuxes, knowing that they can probably wear them again if they bought them.

Anyways, I think i’m going to go look for a dress on Saturday. I have six people who wanna come with me, but I think it’ll just be me and my mom, maybe Brian too (I don’t believe in that bad luck stuff). Then if the vibe I get from these stores is ok, the next time I go look for dresses, i’ll bring some more people that wanna come. I’d love to have my mom and brian’s mom, maybe a friend of mine or bridesmaids.. I dunno, we’ll see. I just gotta scope out the scene first.

I doubt i’ll find one this weekend anyways, i’m too picky. All I know is I want something super super simple, no frilly nonsense, or puffyness… although I do moderately like that ruffled style at the bottom.

Although, some of those end up looking like you’re wearing a duvet.

I also don’t want a strapless dress, most wedding dresses are strapless though. Which is weird, I wonder why? I mean, i’m not so 100% against strapless, but i’d prefer not.

It’s funny how i’m all about talking about dresses, meanwhile Brian wrote that huge thing about calling it off. :P

Back from the wedding show.  Good times. This weekend has been awesome. Wedding dresses are weird. Can’t wait to get married.

I can’t believe how sad we both are. Yesterday was horrible. Drowned my sorrows in a delicious chocolate brownie from Moxies though. Mmmm! So bear with me… i’m hopped up on sugar and vodka and bored at 9am on a sunday. Brian went to bed super early yesterday, so I was just up and strung out on all the sugar I ate yesterday.  And now i’m super bored, and there’s nothing on TV, so i’m just going to have to type type type until I can think of something else to do. So, feel free not to read this.

We called the place we’re booking, she’s getting everything written up for us and will send it over next week when she is back in the office.

We didn’t go to the wedding show… I guess we should go today. Do most people go to these shows? How do you find out who’s out there? I’m the master of finding stuff on the internet, but like I said before, weddings plus internet don’t mix. So, I guess we’ll go.

It sucks that we’ve wasted such a long time, I would have liked to prolong everything. So it was like book the venue, then next month buy a dress, then next month do something, etc… but now it’s book the venue, then on saturday I gotta go find a dress, and everything like right away. No big deal I guess… so nervous about dress shopping though. I have three different dress styles in minds, so I’m going to print them out and bring them with.

So many people wanna come dress shopping with me. It’s funny… I like it, I love having people around… but i’m sure the stores aren’t gonna be happy with all the people. So i may just cut it down to my mom only, if that. Frankly, i’d like for it to just be me and Brian… but I guess it can’t be. I can trust him to tell me when I look fat… I can’t trust anyone else. So we’ll see, hopefully i’ll have a dress next week. I’m not being picky about the dress, just something simple, i’d prefer to not have a train, but the dress I really like has a train… the other two I like don’t though. So it may come down to that. It also may come down to just going to the stores and seeing something different that I didn’t realize was nice on their site.

We’re also still debating on whether we want a band or DJ… This is boring, I don’t know why anyone reads this. We’re getting a ton of views for some weird reason though. Does this really entertain anyone?

I can’t wait to buy a house, that’s totally what’s gonna calm us during this crazy wedding planning process. We’re all about buying houses/condos whatever. So I think it’ll be nice to have this going on, and then house hunting and stuff. It would be nice if our house could be closed by the wedding, so we move in right afterwards. I don’t think we want to move in before we get married, but we’ll see.

It’s so difficult finding the house we want though, most of them are too housey… if that makes sense. And a lot of them are too big. I guess a small three bedroom is fine, but I think we’d both rather have a two bedroom. But then I guess that means we can just stay in the condo. lol. No one gets it…

Just because we only need a two bedroom, doesn’t mean we should be in a condo. Because we want a backyard, we don’t want maintenance fees, etc… Actually, I think a 3 bedroom might be nice, then we can have our computer room (Which we are lacking so we don’t have computers! Booo! :( ), and then the second bedroom can be a cool like den entertainment room or something.

It’s just difficult, because most three bedrooms are kinda big, way too big for us, so it’s just gonna be us in this huge empty house, which is weird. We loved that one house we saw a few months ago on Burndale, best house ever. No question. If we could find that size house again but with an extra bedroom, then I think we’d buy it in a second. I know we would.

The problem was it was a 2 bedroom house for the price of a 4 bedroom house. And we didn’t wanna spend all that money on a 2 bedroom house that we love more than anything, just to have to sell it in a few lots of years when we actually do need a 3 bedroom house.

HAH see what happens when I get onto real estate?? this blog just changed from the wedding blog to the real estate blog. Happy good times!
