It all began six years ago. Melissa was bored at school one day, and wanted to talk to someone online. Anyone. Long story short, she went onto casualkiss.com and searched for someone random to talk to. For her, anything was better than listening to her teacher drag on about crude polygons and how to properly invert nurbs to create a true organic model. The first person to pop up was someone named Brian. He had just become a member of the site, and after seeing that she was looking at him, he decided to take a closer look at her. They started off by chatting every few days, and pretty soon they were talking nonstop, every day. He liked her so much, that he offered to meet her downtown at school to buy her lunches, and me made her laugh by drawing pictures of funny things that she was telling him were going on in her class.

A few months passed. One day, after chatting all day long with each other, Melissa and Brian got into a deep discussion about dreams. This intrigued Melissa, so she asked Brian if he wanted to get some coffee and talk about it some more. He said yes. A few hours later she got home and it was really warm outside. She nixed the coffee and asked if he wanted to meet for ice cream instead. Even though he was lactose intolerant, he said yes.

Brian showed up at Melissa’s door, in his parents’ rusty old Chevrolet Cavalier. She shook his hand said nice to meet you. Neither of them stopped talking during that first date. They both felt so comfortable around each other, as if they’ve known each other forever. After ice cream, Brian said he didn’t want the date to end, and asked Melissa if she’d like to go play glow-in-the-dark mini-golf. After golf, Brian drove Melissa home and they chatted online all night.

They planned their next date for the end of the week, but in between then and the first date, they’d go out on 2 more dates. The second date was really the fourth! After every dayte they’d go home and talk on MSN until sunrise, go to sleep, wake up and go out again, talk all night, and do it all over again.

It was June 30th, 2002. They’d been dating unofficially for three weeks and they were going to go see Fireworks at Canada’s Wonderland. But first Brian wanted to show Melissa how to play The Sims. He took her to his house, but no one was home. They went down to his basement, where she thought to herself “I’m in some guy’s basement who I met off the Internet… this is sketchy!” They played The Sims for a few hours, and then as they were leaving to go see the fireworks, Brian’s parents came home and they met Melissa. This was the first time of many that she heard his dad use the “Van Go” joke.

They went to Wonderland, saw the fireworks and then Brian drove Melissa home. On the way home they stopped in a park. It was dark and scary. They sat in the grass and Brian kissed Melissa. At home a few hours later, Brian asked Melissa if she wanted to make it official. To which she replied, “where do I sign?” To which he replied “on my ass, right after you kiss it!”

And now they’re engaged.
