Problem with Sears
Author: Brian
So Melissa and I had fun on the weekend registering for a bunch of stuff at Sears. We actually registered for stuff we need and want, which is great because for a while we thought we already had everything!
But now we’ve run into a small, annoying problem.
There are a few things that we registered for that were on sale, heavily marked down, but these prices are not what people will see on the registry. Here is an extreme example: We registered for some good pots and pans, in a set, which were on sale for something like $299, marked down from their regular price, $699. Unfortunately, when people look at the registry, they will see $699, and have no idea that these pots are on sale for $299! There are two problems with this. Firstly, the higher regular price might deter people from even looking at the item to begin with, even though the item at its sale price would be something they would consider. Secondly, and this is even worse, Sears allows you to buy the items online or in the store, and their sales don’t always apply to both. I was able to add the pots and pants to my cart, online, at $699! If someone would have actually done this they would have no idea that they could have got it for cheaper by going into the store.
I spoke to Sears, and they said that they can’t put sale prices on the registry because sales are temporary, even though I know that a lot of their items are “always” on sale, like towels. What she did for us though is added a note saying that the item is on sale in the store, but she couldn’t change the regular price display.
We’re thinking at this point we might register for all our big stuff at the Bay, since supposedly they show the current price of items on their registries.

I think we are set on having vegetarian-only food at the wedding. That way, it is automatically kosher, and we don’t have to spend a lot of money on food. Because we can save half the cost, we can focus on having it at a venue we really want, instead of a synagogue, which we don’t feel 100% comfortable in. Plus, people don’t need to eat meat all the time! There are some great vegetarian dishes out there.
We still have to register for stuff. It weird me out when I think that, because we pretty much have everything we need! We have nice dishes, appliances, utensils, and whatever else. The only things I can think of at the top of my head are nicer towels, really good pots and pans, maybe a bread maker, and perhaps little things like spatulas and ice cream scoopers. But that’s not a lot of stuff. So many people I know register for too much, and it all ends up in their parents’ basements because there’s no room in their own kitchens! What’s the point of registering for stuff you’ll never use? I guess some people are just registration gun happy! Cash is always good. Mmmmmm cash.
